My Regular Reads:

People who live in glass Cloud Cities…

May 10th, 2007 by screenwriterguy

spidey“It’s silly. It’s a silly movie. There just isn’t much there. Once you take it all apart, there’s not much story, is there?”

That’s what George Lucas reportedly said about Spider-man 3.

Um.

I haven’t seen Spider-man 3, yet.  I’ve heard it disappoints.  But… the guy who wrote Annakin’s line about not liking sand because it’s all rough and scratchy, unlike the smooth softness of Padme (worst dialogue effver…) thinks Spider-man 3 is silly?  The inventor of Jar-Jar Binks is pointing fingers?

Lucas needs to be really careful, if he wants to avoid building the image of eccentric, dottering loony. I mean, it’s one thing that he practically shat on the work of his prime by cranking out Episodes 1-3. Then he blocks Indiana Jones 4 (itself an idea that could use rethinking,) despite Spielberg’s supposed belief in the script, leaving Frank Darabont pissed off enough to berate Lucas publicly. Now he’s going to take potshots at other effects-laden tentpole movies? Has he seen Attack of the Clones?

My suggestion to Mr. Lucas would be that he never, ever, ever make any public statements, and go back to diving into his pool of money, Scrooge McDuck-style.
