The Scoop

May 16th, 2007
scoopI shan’t dwell on all of this week’s fall TV schedule announcements. (That’s right. Shan’t.) There are bloggers and sites much more useful than mine for gathering that information. However, I’ve conjectured over the last weeks, both to friends and on this blog, and I thought I should hit the highlights. ***Some items contain minor spoilers.***

  • I earlier recounted reading that The Cavemen had tested very poorly and probably won’t see the light, but it seems that ABC placed it in their fall schedule after all. I hate everything about this idea. Involvement of 3rd Rock from the Sun creatives provides further evidence that I will never find its humor to be–what’s the word?–humorous. At all. I hope this show dies in flames before the pilot episode even reaches the west coast. On some level, though, I guess I’m at least glad that ABC is attempting to place two sitcoms on Tuesdays from 8 to 9. I guess I’ll hope that it dies miserably, but that ABC has something other than Bachelor Nannies Dancing for a Makeover to replace it.
  • Rashida Jones (Karen from The Office) is on a pilot called The Rules of Starting Over. The show is about people who have to re-enter the dating pool after the age of 30. It’s been picked up by FOX, so expect Karen to beat out Michael and Jim for the corporate job in this week’s finale.  But we all knew that was coming, right?
  • Scrubs HAS been renewed at NBC for a 7th season after all. It’s worth noting that NBC is bringing its Thursday night line-up back in total: Earl, Office, 30 Rock, Scrubs, E.R. Looks like I get one more year as a viable sample from my spec of that Scrubs. I remain saddened to see the latter years of my once-favorite show bringing the series average down further and further. However, the last few episodes of this season have shown some spark. Elliot and J.D. as a couple is tired, tired territory, yet the current storyline has brought some much needed heart, so I guess I shan’t complain.
  • Though we will get burn-off episodes of Studio 60 starting May 24th on NBC, it’s otherwise done.  Officially.
  • Veronica Mars fans have been on a roller coaster. One day there are rumors of death, the next renewal. Currently, we’re back to everyone quite sure it has been canceled. Variety reports that “people familiar with the show” have indicated it has been canceled. I guess that means we’ll get something of an unsatisfying 2-hour series finale next week. (I don’t want to try to fan a dying ember of hope here, but is it worth noting that tonight’s promo for next week’s episode promised the SEASON finale, and not the SERIES finale?) We hear officially from CW tomorrow. Rumors will probably shift eight more times before then.
