Life imitates… Sorkin?
I passed an L.A. Times newspaper machine today, and I noticed that the headline says Clinton and Giuliani currently lead in the polls.
I couldn’t help thinking of the election in season 7 of The West Wing. Much as Clinton’s early support of the war separates her from her party’s candidates, and Giuliani’s lenient stance on abortion separates him from his, tWW featured a Catholic Democrat with a strong military background versus a Republican who had lost his faith in God. Sure, it’s not a huge reach after the current ridiculously extremist administration to guess that America would look to centrist candidates. Still, the similarity is a bit eerie. Does Aaron Sorkin have a mysterious ability to predict the future? Does this mean Lorne Michaels is due to freak out on live TV? Personally, I would rather vote for Vinnick or Santos than any of the current real-life candidates, although if I could have any part of tWW fiction come true, it would be the “real debate,” sans sound bites. |
